'Scores' die in burning plane

Tehran - A passenger plane caught fire while taxiing at Tehran airport, killing "scores" of passengers and injuring others, state-run television reported on Wednesday. Initial reports that 50 people killed were not yet confirmed, it said. The station said the plane's left engine caught fire while the craft taxied on the runway at Tehran's Mehrabad airport.

If you thought that was bad...

The Saha Airlines plane then plunged into a river at the end of the runway, the broadcaster said. The plane, carrying 157 passengers, had just arrived from the tourist island of Kish in the Persian Gulf.
