A 7-year-old was rushed to the hospital Wednesday after he was shot in front of a library. The shooting took place near the Oak Lane Branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia, across from Ellwood Elementary School. Authorities said that shortly after 3 p.m., just as school was letting out, the boy was shot in the head and in his side as he stood with his stepfather. He is in critical condition at Albert Einstein Medical Center.

Police said...

"The intended victim was not the child, the intended victim appeared to be this child's stepfather. Unfortunately, the stepfather just took off, left his child there," said Sylvester Johnson, Philadelphia's police commissioner.
